About CRV
CRV is a pioneering, innovative herd improvement company that is leading the way in dairying in New Zealand. CRV has a range in projects underway to identity where genetics can assist with reducing the environmental footprint of global dairy herds.

As a business, our goal is to help dairy farmers achieve the best possible herd. We do this through collaborating with farmers and offering them the best genetic tools and information to achieve their farming goals. Our extensive breeding programme, excellent genetic research, and innovative products place CRV at the forefront of change nationally and internationally. Our customers are CRV’s best ambassadors, and together we are proud to be taking dairying in a positive new direction for New Zealand.

CRV New Zealand (formally known as CRV Ambreed) is the Oceania of the global company CRV which is a co-op owned by Dutch and Belgian dairy farmers.

James Smallwood – Managing Director CRV Oceania
James joined CRV in September 2020. He has over thirty years’ experience and a passion for agribusiness, having worked around the world in a variety of leadership positions, which have given him a deep understanding of the primary industries.

Smallwood was born and bred on a small dairy farm in the Wairarapa. He and his wife have expanded this to a 550-cow operation over the past twenty years. They have also recently developed a dairy beef unit in partnership with their long-standing sharemilkers. James has experience in primary industry engagement, as the Director of entities including DataGene, Ovita Limited, and has completed the Fonterra Governance Development programme.

He has chaired several boards and committees both in the industry and in the wider Wairarapa community.

Peter van Elzakker – CRV Product Development and Product Manager Oceania
Peter has worked for CRV since 1994 primarily in product management and sales roles in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Peter was raised on a dairy farm in The Netherlands. A keen interest in anything to do with cows led him to study genetics and agricultural economics at Wageningen University. Since 2012 he has been based in New Zealand, from where he has travelled extensively to South America, South Africa, USA and Europe offering technical support to the wider CRV team and promoting New Zealand Genetics.

Peter works with CRV’s New Zealand genetics team to produce the right grazing genetics and works with the company’s sales and marketing teams to promote these genetics in New Zealand and around the world.
