Election 2026: What’s ahead for agriculture and rural New Zealand?

Election 2026 panel discussion

With the general election approaching, decisions made in the next political cycle will play an important role in shaping the future of New Zealand’s primary sector and rural communities.

The New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators is bringing together representatives from across the political spectrum to pitch their positions on agricultural priorities, facilitated by our fabulous MC, Anne-Marie Case-Miller.

This on-the-record discussion will explore where the parties align, where they differ and what their policies could mean in practice for farmers, growers and rural communities.

Confirmed panelists:

Andrew Hoggard — ACT

Steve Abel — Green Party

Damien O’Connor — Labour Party

Mike Butterick — National Party

Mark Patterson — New Zealand First

Daniel Eb — Opportunity Party

Further speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.
