Garland 2015 Landcorp Agricultural Communicator of the Year

Waipukurau farm consultant, Chis Garland, is the winner of the 2015 Landcorp Agricultural Communicator of the Year award.
Chris, pictured right receiving his award from Landcorp chair Traci Houpapa, has been a director and shareholder of Baker and Associates and has been, since it was formed in 1986. Before that he was an advisor with the MAF advisory services for six years.
He completed a Kellogg Rural Leadership course in 2006 and has served on the Council of the NZ Institute of Primary Industry Management for a number of years, being made a fellow of the institute in 2008. He has wide experience in management, strategic planning, HR and governance functions of medium-to-large businesses in the sheep, beef and deer sectors. Benchmarking and business planning are large components of this work. Chris also sits on a number of business advisory committees and research & development mentor groups, and edits the highly successful AgLetter, which has been ipublished since 1986
In its 29th year, the Landcorp Agricultural Communicator of the Year Award is administered by the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators, and recognises excellence in communicating agricultural issues, events or information. Regarded as the premier award for agricultural communicators, itis also the most valuable prize the guild offers. Landcorp provides a prize of $2500, which is part of a funding package of $7500 in sponsorship for the Guild. The additional funding assists with administration costs, including the Awards dinner.
Guild President Graeme Peters said Chris is held in very high regard by farmers around the country.
“He is able to communicate even the most complex messages to farmers and agribusiness owners. He has honed his communication skills over many years and is just as comfortable talking one-on-one over the farm kitchen table as he is when fronting an audience of hundreds of farmers at a field day or seminar.
“His ability to communicate with farmers at all levels and on all aspects of agriculture and life are recognised by this award.”
