Pre- and post-Congress tours were developed, in conjunction with experienced farming tour operators. Our aim was to give plenty of material to write/broadcast about and we searched out the best of the New Zealand agribusiness story – farming operations and their people – for inclusion.
Bookings for both of these CLOSED ON Monday 7 September.
Our pre-Congress tour will run from Thursday 8 October through to Wednesday 14 October, taking you from Auckland and delivering you to Hamilton via Napier, Taupo, Rotorua and Tauranga, in time for the first Congress event.
Dine in Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’, on your first evening with your tour companions. On your journey from Napier to Hamilton, amongst other operations we’re planning for you to visit deer, sheep and beef farms – including one owned by New Zealand's largest corporate farmer – a tannery, a vineyard, orchards, a meat plant and the latest New Zealand forestry innovations. You’ll also find out what we’ve done with all the possums!
The highlight of this tour will be the stunning volcanic scenery, Māori culture and Napier’s Art Deco style.
The tour costs (NZ$ 2,591 per person twin share, single room supplement NZ$ 681) will include six nights of accommodation, tours and meals.
Magnificent scenery, seas and wine are on offer in this five full day tour that will take you from Hamilton to the sunniest place in New Zealand, Nelson, by air.
Seafood, horticulture and dairy are on offer in the Nelson district, before you shimmy on over to Blenheim for a briefing at the Marlborough Wine Research Centre and a tasting of the region's remarkable wines.
Find out about how one award-winning sheep farmer has dealt successfully with drought. Other visits include the Yealands Estate vineyard, cropping farming, dairy conversion, and a high country merino station. You’ll also spend a half day at Lincoln University visiting a dairy trial farm, amongst other fascinating research, and a couple of hours at PGGWrightson’s Kimihia Seed Research Centre.
A personal highlight for you could be swimming with the dolphins at Kaikoura, or seeing how Christchurch is rejuvenating after the disastrous earthquakes there in 2010 and 2011.
Tour costs (NZ$ 2,230 per person twin share, single room supplement NZ$ 495) will include five nights of accommodation, plus tours and meals and the flight from Hamilton to Nelson.
The tour ends in Christchurch, which is an international airport. Depending on your plans, you can fly directly home, or to Auckland or Wellington, or simply stay on and enjoy the other wonders of the South Island.
Note: the Post Congress Tour of the Lower North Island has been CANCELLED owing to limited interest.
Bookings have now CLOSED for the Hot Tropics Australian pre-Congress tour.
